Arrieta, who turns 32 on March 6, went 14-10 with a 3.53 ERA in 30 starts for the Chicago Cubs last season.
There was speculation that the 2015 Cy Young winner was targeting a $200 million deal but that's highly unlikely to happen, particularly considering that Yu Darvish only received $126 million.
Arrieta has been far from dominant over the past season-and-a-half and has seen the velocity on his fastball drop from 95.2 mph to 92.5 mph since 2015.
Lance Lynn and Alex Cobb are cheaper options for those teams considering Arrieta.
Philadelphia is trending upwards, and Arrieta could be the piece that caps off the organization's rebuild. MLB.com reports that the Phillies are open to a three-year deal with Arrieta, but he may be seeking a five-to-seven year commitment.
Asked last week about the possibility of adding another starter, Phillies owner John Middleton downplayed the notion. "It's not so remote that you'd say 'no, there's really no chance'. But I would tell you we're not just looking at free agents," Middleton said.
Brewers
Milwaukee has beefed up its offense with the additions of Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich, but the team is in desperate need of a reliable starter. The Brewers had baseball's lowest payroll in 2017 and apparently have the cash to get Arrieta.
